Prologue...
The room was densely lit, the curtains
were drawn and only so much light
streamed in from whatever little the
weather could produce. It was august,
summer overseas but very much rainy season here. As they sat two good
friends wrested from the hands of
terrible circumstances-or at least so he
thought-they exchanged laughs as he
purred in his usual manner on how it
came to be that his past had defined and readied him for what was to come.
"it made me smart, very smart" he said
from behind a wry smile
"abeg jor" she cut in smiling, he laughed
heartily jerking his head backwards in
real pleasure "but you know it na" he added still half laughing "naaaaah" she
said, then with a smile and a firm look in
her eyes she said "but I'm smarter than
you" he paused momentarily, pondering
the look in her eyes, he would take that
seriously he thought to himself, but then again he recalled female ego and
laughed out hard and said "hey!, this is
not that joke where 11 people were
on..." she cut him short and said "no, i
am smarter than you are"... He was
quiet for just over a second then he said heartily "its always better to let a
woman win in an argument, i rest ma
case" this he said giving her a friendly
punch which she readily returned...
They continued to share the moment,
two people bitten by the oddities of commitment. They understood each
other he thought to himself,
circumstance had made it so. Still there
was something he would prefer settled,
he had to wait as he thought about
that, the voice slowly drifted back into his thoughts "I'm smarter than you" he
paused for a moment and looked right
in her eyes, what that really meant he
couldnt phatom. Buh once again, fate
would teach him a lesson in its usual
way, it was only going to take some time and in this case, hours! D
